This work 'titled'chief' was conceived with regard to how we colonise different regions
of the world and use territory and power and resources to change cultures, the chief sculpture is portrayed as a depicted
native Indian, hanging upside down, in full head dress. I wanted to use the idea of a portrait head but not
in a conventio0nal sense, to challenge how the audience view sculpted heads, I have used collected items
from our everyday experiences and cast them into bronze to use traditional methods of making and
manufacture to then contextualise the work in a challenging way which raises issues of culture and
territories. The chief has many different components individually cast in bronze which has then been
coloured with a patinas. Their is of course an undercurrent of socio polital issues embedded in the work
both in its use of imagery and manufacture.
The work has been over 18 years in the making
